We are currently reading for Issue #44 from now until May 31, 2024. We seek poetry that explores the theme "Sharps & Flats." Creative interpretations are highly encouraged and welcome. Submit up to five (5) poems in one document file only. We also are seeking photography and artwork for the issue. Please do not submit again until you have received a response on the status of your current submission. Issue #44 will be published in fall 2024.

DEADLINE for submissions is: May 31, 2024

No previously published work please.

What To Submit
Submit poetry only, (no fiction until further notice), black & white photographs, drawings, and illustrations. If submitting artwork by mail, please send scans or photocopies rather than originals.

We prefer contemporary urban themes—writing from the gut that is not afraid to bark or bite—and shy away from pastoral, religious, and rhyming verse.

If you're unsure, the editors strongly recommend that you sample a current or back issue of Slipstream. Submitting blindly to any magazine may result in wasting your time, money, and effort.

Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, as long as you inform us promptly if the work has been taken by another outlet.

2 Ways To Submit
Submissions for the magazine are accepted by U.S. Mail or electronically through our submission system, Submittable.
Please do not submit work via email.

For Annual Chapbook Contest

  • $1,000 prize plus 50 professionally printed copies of your chapbook, published and distributed by Slipstream.

  • Deadline for entries: Dec. 1 every year
Send up to 40 pages of poetry any style, format, theme (or no theme) and a $20 check, bank draft, or money order for reading fee. Manuscripts will not be returned.

Simultaneous submissions are okay as long as you keep us informed of status. Previously published poems with proper acknowledgement and photocopies (that are easy on the eyes) are also acceptable.

All entrants receive a copy of the winning chapbook plus a classic issue of Slipstream magazine.

A winner is selected in the spring. Due to recent increases in the cost of mail, manuscripts will no longer be returned.
The winner is featured on the Slipstream web site and in all Slipstream catalogues, press releases and promotional materials. Additionally, the winner of the Slipstream Poetry Chapbook Contest is often featured on the Grants & Awards page of Poets & Writers Magazine.
